THE WAY WE WORK IS CHANGING
The world of work is changing at speed, but access to the skills needed to thrive isn’t keeping up. Automation and AI are changing the way we work but the gains - and the risks - are not being shared fairly, with those already being left behind being disproportionally affected. Young people, communities with fewer opportunities, smaller businesses and regions outside of London that lack the right infrastructure are at the sharp end of this workplace disruption.

5 YEARS
A skills half-life of just five years, with some skills less than 24 months. Workers struggle to stay current and employable
Lifelong learning
It’s not only people entering the workforce who are affected. Millions already in work are feeling the pressure to keep up as AI and automation change jobs and expectations. Roles are evolving and skills need refreshing faster than ever meaning that careers no longer follow a straight path. To thrive, we need to see learning not as a one-off stage in life but as a lifelong skill in itself - the ability to adapt, grow and keep pace with change.
The £1.5 billion elephant in the room
Apprenticeships were created as one of the main tools to tackle the skills gap, giving people the chance to learn while they work and helping employers build resilient talent pipelines. But the system is falling short. Last year £1.5 billion of the Apprenticeship Levy went unspent, leaving opportunities unused and many employers unsure how to make the most of it. Without the right support, apprenticeships are not reaching the people and businesses that need them most and the chance to close the skills gap is being missed.

We're here to fix that.
High-impact skills programmes
We design and deliver high-impact programmes that address the growing gap between open roles and underemployed talent.
We make use of unused levy funds, offering life-changing training that equips individuals with the skills they need today and the resilience to thrive tomorrow. We offer short courses designed to get people ready for work – and setting them up for a life of learning.
Whether it’s helping young people access green jobs, supporting educators to use AI safely, or upskilling overlooked talent in local communities, our focus is always the same: making learning accessible, breaking down barriers and helping to fix a global skills crisis.
Rooted in values of inclusion, community, and continuous growth, Maikai unlocks the potential in people, organisations and communities nationwide.
