Why it matters
At Maikai, we believe the path to successful apprenticeships and long-term careers begins before employment starts. Our 2-week pre-education and pre-employment training equips learners with the foundational skills, confidence and mindset they need to thrive from day one. This is especially critical for individuals from underserved communities, who face higher drop-out rates from apprenticeships due to gaps in academic readiness, work exposure or personal support.​​
​The evidence behind our approach
Research shows that pre-apprenticeship programmes significantly improve outcomes. Trainees who complete a work-ready course are more likely to begin and complete their apprenticeships, with better long-term employment results. These programmes are most effective when they combine academic refreshers (e.g. English, maths, digital), workplace exposure (e.g. tasters or employer placements) and soft skills development together with tailored support such as mentoring or travel bursaries.
