ALL ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP LEVY

The world of work is undergoing a skills-based transformation. Advances in technology have created a critical need for new skills to the extent that the World Economic Forum predicts that 50% of the global workforce will need reskilling by 2030. In the UK, there are currently 1 million job vacancies with an acute need to upskill or reskill the workforce to fill the gap.

The UK Government’s Apprenticeship Levy was introduced in 2017 to do exactly that. Since then, millions of people have benefited from better training, while employers have seen uplifts in productivity and increased efficiencies. Yet the Institute for Policy Research indicates that approximately £1.1 billion annually remains unspent and is being returned to the treasury.

Sporting organisations are no different from the rest of UK businesses when it comes to being able to strategically deploy the Levy. The complexity of the training provider landscape, the lack of sport relevancy in existing courses and the difficulties administrating an apprentice programme have been cited by the industry as barriers for full implementation.

The FutureFit Programme has been designed to overcome these hurdles, allowing organisations to take advantage of government-funded training to address their Learning and Development opportunities and crucially, give people the skills they will need to thrive in this fast-changing world.
